Whew, after a full day of traveling, and no sleep I have finally arrived in Florence! Yesterday we were taken by a taxi to our homestay where we unpacked, ate dinner, and passed out. Today we had an orientation meeting and took a walk around the city. I can't express how lucky I am- It is absolutely beautiful here- I feel like I'm in a movie.
Some highlights so far...
1. Our house momma. Marina is the sweetest, most precious lady Florentine lady. We play a 'game' during dinner where she teaches us Italian and we teach her English. She tries so hard, and we are learning which makes the game fun and helps us communicate. Tonight I asked her if we could call her momma- she got a hugeee smile on her face and said "YES! YES!" I'm excited to get to know her better this semester!
2. Our flat. The whole place looks straight from a magazine- everything is so simple and beautiful. Marina is very artsy, and that is greatly portrayed in our house.
3. The food. Last night Marina cooked us a delicious pasta dinner. Today, I've had a prosciutto and cheese panino for lunch, and for dinner- fried potatoes, fresh tomatoes, and hamburger-like meat. Very different than American hamburgers and fries, though!
4. The language. It is so romantic to listen to- I cant wait to learn some.
